Casa Miel was born from a simple belief: children need time and space to be children, and families need community.
We are a small homeschool community for families drawn to something a little slower, a little more connected, and deeply rooted in the wonder of childhood. We come together to build friendships, share meaningful experiences, and give children plenty of space to play, explore, and simply be.
Just as importantly, Casa Miel brings parents together. Because while homeschooling happens at home, we don't believe we have to do it alone.
Casa Miel translates to 'honey house' and also combines the first letters of my daughters' names, Mia and Ellie.
Our Philosophy
Bilingual by Nature
Spanish and English are woven through Casa Miel in different ways depending on how we gather — songs, stories, and shared experiences, or simply Spanish spoken among the adults at the playground. We want children to experience it as a living language: something they hear through conversation, friendship, music, and everyday moments. Not a subject to master, but a sound they grow up inside of.
Honoring the Whole Child
Touches of Waldorf and Reggio Emilia are woven throughout the environments and experiences we create. From Waldorf: rhythm, storytelling, beauty, imagination, meaningful work, and time for children to move, play, create, and simply be — without pressure to constantly produce or perform. From Reggio Emilia: trust that children, given thoughtful spaces and open-ended materials, can experiment, problem-solve, and develop their own ideas, valuing process over product.
Wildness is Welcome
Nature is part of our rhythm, and childhood out there can get messy — we welcome that. Our gatherings may find children digging in the dirt, making "soup" in the mud kitchen, investigating a worm, or kicking off their shoes to feel the earth beneath their feet. We don't see these moments as interruptions to learning; we see them as part of it.
Growing a Village
At its heart, Casa Miel is something we hope to co-create. We want children to see familiar faces, develop real friendships, and feel that they belong — and parents to find that same sense of connection. It's a community where we share ideas, experiences, cultures, traditions, and the homeschooling journey with one another.
A Little More About Me
I hold a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and a Master's degree in Education, and I spent a decade as a bilingual fifth-grade teacher.
While those experiences have shaped me, becoming a mother has been my greatest teacher. My approach to education is inspired by the belief that children learn best through relationships, play, meaningful work, and time spent in nature.
Meet Priscilla
Hi, I'm Priscilla - a wife, mama to two little girls, former bilingual elementary school teacher, and the heart behind Casa Miel.
After spending ten years as an ESL teacher in the public school system, I began to imagine a different kind of education — one rooted in curiosity, connection, nature, and the freedom to honor childhood.
Today, I homeschool my daughters, Mia and Ellie, and spend my days sharing stories, creating, and learning alongside them.
Why I Chose Homeschooling
Although I loved teaching, I found myself longing for something different for my own children. I wanted learning to happen through baking, collecting leaves, building forts, telling stories, caring for a garden, and asking endless questions. I wanted their days to be filled with wonder instead of rushing from one lesson to the next.
Homeschooling has given our family the opportunity to slow down, follow curiosity, and create a childhood that values presence over pressure.
Why Casa Miel?
One thing I quickly realized after beginning our homeschool journey was that children—and parents—need community. As a bilingual family, I also longed for a place where my daughters could hear Spanish spoken naturally through everyday conversations, songs, stories, and play. Casa Miel grew from that dream.
It's a place where families can gather, children can play freely, Spanish is celebrated as a living language, and mothers can find the support and friendships that make this journey richer.
